The Orange Tree
This story could be told as my final stage of acceptance of my new life. It started at an earlier time of my new beginning of this new existence after my accident – life in a wheelchair.
I had only been home from hospital a matter of weeks when my wife (at the time) brought me a sapling. I can’t remember what type of fruit tree it was suppose to grow to be. It was in a small pot about 10 inches wide and 6 inches deep. It was a graft from another species of fruit. Its trunk was so thin and weedy looking, it was obvious it was grafted and it was priced down for sale. It finally outgrew the pot in which it had been sold so I decided to plant it in the middle of the backyard.Continue reading
