The Boy At The Swimming Pool

This story is not about me. It’s about what happened to me when I went to do one of my hydrotherapy sessions. I was so overcome by what I saw I had to tell you about it. We all take so much for granted even me with all my disabilities. This story puts a new light on events and just when you think things can’t get any worse, something appears to open your eyes a little wider.

This particular Tuesday morning I had completed hydrotherapy and was waiting for my carer to come back from getting changed into street clothes. I was drained after doing the therapy and was relaxing with my head on the chin control of the chair – like resting on a pillow. A woman came into the pool along with her son. She had so many shopping bags hanging from the wheelchair, I am reasonably sure she was the mother of the small boy in the wheelchair. He was in a reclined position which was also not normal. No carer would have so much on the chair and the weight must have been a great deal. No company would permit their carers to push so much at once along with pushing a child as well.

When she arrived my carer was coming out of the change room.
